New Year's Resolutions With Impact: #Stopthe100billion

2016 saw yet another 100 billion single-use takeaway cups go to landfill. That's 273,972,603 coffee cups every single day.

Contrary to popular belief, single-use cups are regrettably not recyclable; very few facilities currently exist to manage the complex task of separating the plastic from the paper, meaning that the vast majority end up in landfill.

Ecoffee Cup is a new generation of reusable cup, launched to help tackle the ever-growing problem of single-use packaging waste, while simultaneously providing a stylish, practical reusable cup for the coffee-consuming public.

The company set up the #stopthe100billion campaign in an attempt to raise awareness of the issue and effect real change in the way we consume takeaway products.

The Ecoffee Cup is manufactured using bamboo fibre (the world's fastest-growing, most sustainable crop) and non-GMO corn starch, which means it's not only BPA and phthalate free, but biodegradable. As such, it can be buried with household organic waste at the end of its lifecycle (the cups will last for years if treated well). Ecoffee Cup is sturdy but light, it has a resealable 'drip proof' lid, is fully dishwasher safe and importantly, because bamboo is naturally sterile, it doesn't flavour-taint drinks, unlike some other reusables.

“The time for action is now,” says Ecoffee Cup founder, David McLagan. “Consumers, coffee chains and governments must all act in unison in order to reduce the number of coffee cups going to landfill.

“But whilst the battle with high street giants and politicians is likely to be a more long term one, consumers can start to make a difference today.”

Armed with the right reusable cup, coffee will taste better and stay warm for longer. Brits can start the year as they mean to go on by treating themselves to a reusable coffee cup to help reduce consumer waste in 2017 and beyond.

Many coffee shops and cafes across the UK are now offering customers discounts on their hot drinks to incentivise the use of reusables, saving the British coffee consuming public money as well as helping to save the planet.

Available from only £8.95, Ecoffee Cup comes in an extensive range of original, vibrant designs; from block colours, striped or spotted, to geometric, feather or floral patterns, and including a striking limited edition William Morris collection. It is currently available in over 400 outlets in the UK and online at www.ecoff.ee.
