Mary Quicke Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Devonshire Cheesemaker, Mary Quicke, has received the award for 'Exceptional Contribution to Cheese' at the World Cheese Awards 2015. The Quicke's owner collected her well-deserved prize at the World Cheese Awards dinner, which took place last night at Birmingham's NEC.

With a lifetime dedicated to creating superior cheeses, the prize could not have gone to a more worthy candidate. Mary Quicke's passion for her dairy herd and artisan cheesemaking methods make her a leading authority on traditional cheese production. In 2005, Mary received an MBE for her contribution to farming and cheesemaking. A truly extraordinary character, Mary's talents stretch beyond traditional cheese and buttermaking. She is regular surfer, has a degree in English Literature, and each month, she shares her experiences of farm life in her award-winning 'Quicke Off The Mark' column for Devon Life magazine. Mary applies her cheese expertise by judging at a number of prestigious cheese competitions.

Quicke's cheeses are testament to Mary's contribution to the industry. Whilst being renowned for creating artisan cheeses using methods that date back generations, the brand is also famed for its pioneering streak.  Quicke's produces eleven varieties of traditional clothbound cheeses, which frequently receive awards for their exceptional taste and quality. Proving their consistency and furthering the celebration – Quicke's received two gold medals and one bronze medal at this year's World Cheese Awards.

Mary Quicke commented: “Exceptional Contribution to Cheese – wow! I am absolutely overjoyed; it is a real achievement to receive such an award! When you love what you do it never feels like work, and cheesemaking at Home Farm is what makes me tick. I am inextricably linked to the land and our herd; and creating beautiful cheeses is my passion. I hope to dedicate a further lifetime to cheese!”

The World Cheese Awards is the largest cheese competition on the planet. The judging of this year's awards took place on Thursday 26th November at the BBC Good Food Show Winter, at Birmingham's NEC. 2727 cheeses, from all over the world, were judged by 250 experts who worked in teams of four to identify which cheeses would receive medals.

Each Gold Medal cheese was then further scrutinised by a different panel of judges to choose the Super Golds – the Top 50 cheeses in the world. A Supreme Jury of twelve experts, representing the four corners of the globe, then did a third and final judging of this Top 50 and selected this year's trophy winners, alongside the World Champion 2015. The trophy winners were announced that evening at the World Cheese Awards dinner, where Mary collected her lifetime achievement award.
