National Catfish Day, June 25

Bow & Stern Oyster Bar to Celebrate

Chicago’s Comeback Fish!

In light of the Chicago River catfish comeback continuing to make a ripple in the headlines, Bow & Stern Oyster Bar  just west of the River will celebrate National Catfish Day, June 25.   Starting at 5 pm, executive chef Brian Greene opens doors and invites catfish lovers in for a Catfish & Chips special in honor of the tasty fish of the hour.   The $10 dish includes a fried catfish sandwich, slaw, fresh-cut fries, and house-made tartar sauce.  As an appetizer, guests are invited to partake in Oyster Happy Hour between 5 pm and 7 pm, when oysters are priced around $1.

The Origin of National Catfish Day: Yes, it’s truly a National day.   On June 25, 1987, President Ronald Reagan began a presidential proclamation with the words "More and more Americans are discovering a uniquely American food delicacy — farm-raised catfish."
