Food And Drink Celebrity Line Up Announced For This Year's Dartmouth Food Festival (25th - 27th October 2013)



Plans are hotting up for the foodies' festival of choice, Dartmouth Food Festival (Friday 25th - Sunday 27th October).  Lots of high profile food and drink celebrities have now confirmed their involvement, which is certain to make this year's festival the best yet.  

The esteemed award-winning writer, journalist and broadcaster Jay Rayner will be making an appearance.  Jay, a regular on BBC's 'The One Show' and a renowned restaurant critic for both The Observer and The Guardian, will take you on a journey through the world's edible landscape with his 'A Greedy Man In a Hungry World' talk on Friday 25th October in The Flavel (7.30 - 8.30pm; tickets cost £16 each).  

To whet your appetite further, celebrity chefs guaranteed to enthuse crowds include Dartmouth favourite Mitch Tonks.  Fish chef extraordinaire, seafood champion and award-winning food writer, Mitch, will be thrilling audiences during his much awaited 'Seafood Lunch with Mitch Tonks & Friends'. Former Riverford Field Kitchen head chef, award-winning cookery book writer and the lady behind the innovative Baxters Movable Feasts, Jane Baxter, will be hosting a 'A Taste of Italy', which is assured to set the audience's taste buds tingling.  French chef and baker Richard Bertinet will be motivating all to join the hugely popular bread making movement of the moment, along with chairman and co-owner of Manna from Devon Cooking School, David Jones.

If drinks are more your thing, you'll be excited to learn regular wine expert on BBC1's 'Saturday Kitchen', wine columnist for the Sunday Telegraph's 'Stella' magazine and drinks editor for Delicious magazine, Susy Atkins, is spearheading the drinks' programme.  Susy will be running an exceptional array of wine tastings and seminars across all three festival days.  Joining Susy, the festival has a fantastic line up of distinguished drinks' experts and enthusiasts, including The Guardian's highly respected wine writer Fiona Beckett, master of wine Liam Steevenson from Red & White wines and the ever passionate Tim McLaughlin-Green, Mitch Tonks' sommelier.  All of which will be wowing audiences with their incredible knowledge of the world of wine.

There will be over a hundred local producers, as well as a few from further afield, showcasing their products including South Devon Chilli Farm, Sharpham Estate, Dartmouth Ice Cream Company, Georgie Porgie's Puddings, Filberts Fine Foods and Ashridge Cider to name just a few.

On Thursday 24th October, in the lead up to the main festival, there will be the ever popular children's day, which will include a fun series of workshops on sausage making, composting, keeping chickens and making fruit juice.  This will be followed on the Thursday evening with the official launch evening, the 'Festival Feast', again in The Flavel.
